Kamloops United FC and Nanaimo United FC battled it out, and although Kamloops came out on top and won the RD13 trophy, our squads left with full hearts. What a weekend!
The two teams went into the final leg of the competition tied on points, but Kamloops was in the lead thanks to an aggregate score of 6 goals to 3. Ruby Nicholas put the pressure on early with two goals within the first 12 minutes of the women’s game - unknowingly securing the win. The Kamloops ladies snagged a goal in the second half, but our ladies held strong. Nanaimo was in the lead for the trophy 6 points to 3!

The men’s game also started with a bang and Nanaimo led 1-0 going into the second half. However, Kamloops’ men put on the afterburners and kicked into a higher gear - by the end of the second half, they had scored 3 goals.
Just like after the first leg, the teams were tied with a win apiece, making the points tally 6 to 6. But Kamloops was up 10 goals to 6, securing them victory in the 2nd Reid Davidson Charity Shield. Congratulations Kamloops FC on your first club trophy! It was a great battle.

Reid Davidson’s dad, Michael, sent a note to share with the club. His words encapsulate the weekend’s feels:
What a special day. It was so wonderful to see the stands full of people eager to watch the second leg of the RD13 Charity Shield games.
Many people were there as soccer fans, but many were there to honour and remember Reid. The love was felt by both clubs.
It was amazing to see both sides fighting so hard for the trophy, but also showing respect and love, knowing what it represents.
For us, the winner is irrelevant. Obviously we have a strong connection to both NUFC and KUFC, as Reid was given the opportunity to develop his skills through Kamloops rep soccer, and continue by playing at a higher level in Nanaimo and working for the club. It is an important and special tribute to Reid, and a wonderful way to honour him.
Although it is an emotional time for us, it is so meaningful knowing how Reid impacted both communities. RD13 Forever.
Thank you, Michael, and thank you to everyone who came to Kamloops or was cheering from the island. We can’t wait for next year!

Keep your eyes on our socials! We’ve got one more RD13 event in the works.
The squads have been away the last two weeks and are looking forward to only one more mainland mission before they return to play at the Q’unq’inuqstuxw Stadium on July 5. Their upcoming home game opponents: Vancouver Rise and the Whitecaps. Stay tuned!
United!
