Nanaimo United’s fourth pro-am season is just over a month away but it’s already been an exciting year.

League1 Has a New Name: Meet the BC Premier League

League1 has been rebranded to strengthen its alignment with the Canadian Premier League - Canada’s professional men’s league. Now known as the Premier Soccer League Canada (PSLC), the brand refresh “reflects PSLC’s central role in connecting deeply rooted community clubs with higher levels of opportunity across both the men’s and women’s games, while preserving the distinct character of its aligned provincial and regional leagues.” Nanaimo United now plays in BC’s provincial branch, the BC Premier League (BCPL).

Same great league, fresh new look. For more information about League1’s rebrand, read this article.

But what exactly is the BCPL and why does it matter? The BC Premier League is the third tier of professional soccer in Canada and ports directly into the men's Canadian championship and the women's Concacaf Champions Cup. It serves as the stepping stone from high-performance youth to the elite amateur and professional levels of the game. Click here for more information about the BC Premier League.

Jazmine Wilkinson, Calum Weir, and Niklas Hallam are a few of our athletes who have gone on to sign professional contracts in the Canadian Premier League and the Northern Super League, or in Niklas’ case, be drafted. Wilkinson and Hallam are island locals, from Nanaimo and Victoria, respectively, and Weir is a University of Victoria student.
