“We’ve got a real desire to work,” men’s coach Kevin Lindo reminded the team during a tactics breakdown at practice on Thursday. Their touches are sharp, they are focussed, they are ready for their battle against Burnaby.
For their second home game of the season, Nanaimo United will be facing off against Burnaby FC. The women play at 1 PM and the men follow right after at 3:30 PM.

Q’unqinuqwstuxw Stadium is the place to be Saturday afternoon. The One Cool Cookie food truck will be there with ice cream, warm and cold drinks, and a variety of treats. We’ll have the FunZone set up again for our youngsters and Wolf Brewing will be hosting a beer garden again for our adults.
Keeper Brian Murray commented on last weekend’s game against Altitude and what the men are hoping to bring into this upcoming match:
There was a lot of energy. Most teams drop energy by the end - we kept the energy for the full 90 minutes. It’s a big thing to be able to do - all it takes is lack of effort, lack of focus, and you lose a goal and three points just like that. Staying focussed for that full 90 minutes is so important. I’m glad this team is capable of that. Altitude liked to go long and this team on the weekend like to keep it. We’ll adjust to that.
“We are looking to bring what we brought to the last game - there were lots of positives,” says Shea Battie, a player returning from a broken foot on the women’s squad. “One of which was the grit,” added women’s coach Bobbie Taylor. “We need to be consistent with that. New players are coming in this week so we’re still getting to know each other and the game model. Always improving.”

It’s going to be warm and sunny this weekend, so pack your hats and sunscreen, grab your soccer-loving pals, and come on down to Q’unq’inuqwstuxw Stadium. Tickets available here.
