The men’s team pulled through with a solid win of 2-0. Charlie Purcell started the team off strong with a goal 10 minutes in. Rivers held the men off until the second half, when Suka Behery scored his second goal of the season. Coach Kevin Lindo said “Our backline, including our goalkeeper [Callum Weir], were tremendous [in] keeping a clean sheet. Special mention to Yusuf and Wyatt who really gave us additional athleticism and composure.” Lindo felt the men “managed River’s threats in behind and set pieces, the guys had to really come together at times for this. We’re starting to build some synergy in our build up and attacking threat…” He was very happy with how the lads performed.
Harbourside’s women tied with Rivers FC, 1-1. The ladies conceded an early goal, but Jazmine Wilkinson tied it up in the second half with an amazing finish. Check out the video of the play that led to the goal on our Instagram @harboursidefc. Coach Bobbie Taylor commented:
“We had a slow start in the first half as we struggled to find our game and allowed Rivers to control the tempo…The second half was much better as we played a more dynamic style and our back line and midfielders were connecting. There were some great build up moments, one of which Jazmine finished with great composure. Kaiden was outstanding in goal and kept us in the game. ”
Callum Weir, a player on the men's squad, summed up the day perfectly. "The game was a full team effort, and [it] was great to have all the lads put a proper shift in! We start as we mean to go on. Up the harbour!" The teams now turn their attention to Wednesday’s away game against Altitude FC. Be sure to stay up to date with the League1 app, and our pre-game newsletter coming out Tuesday.
