Happy Canada Day! Did you know that some of our Nanaimo United League1 players have played on the international stage and represented the maple leaf? Check out last year’s article about alumni and Nanaimo local Jazmine Wilkinson’s experience on the national team here. Representing Canada was a turning point in her career, helping her earn a spot on a Division 1 NCAA team and ultimately instigating her professional career in the Northern Super League with Ottawa Rapids FC.

Current women’s player and high school stand-out, Victoria Cronkhite, has dual Swiss-Canadian citizenship and has also made an international appearance. In 2024, she was called up to the U17 Swiss women’s national team. During a post-game interview, she filled us in on what that looked like. Check out the Women’s Game section of this article to learn more. Despite wearing Swiss colours, Cronkhite’s international soccer experience was a direct result of her Canadian and island roots and upbringing. Read more about her national team experience on Pacific FC’s blog here.
JUNE 28 GAME REPORT
The squads left all the points in Langley, but last weekend’s games were great examples of what League1 is all about.
Langley United is the summer home of one of our gals’ university teammates and friend. Nanaimo players Raina Hagel, Ruby Nicholas, Alex Paul, Ella Ashfield play for the University of Victoria with Langley player Jayden Hannesson. League1 is a community! From teammates to opponents, League1 allows these ladies to play and train in different environments at a high level and develop key skills and strengths that they can incorporate into their games and bring back to their universities when they reunite in the fall.
In the men’s game, Canadian Premier League player, Kevin Podgorni, was called to play with Langley United. What a great developmental opportunity for our lads! League1 provides developing and hopeful professional and university players with the opportunity to play against the best in Canada.
League1’s all about university and professional players and athletes like Victoria and Jazmine who have represented on the national level coming together to offer high level soccer right in your backyard - I don’t know about you, but I’d call that some sweet Canadian camaraderie!
See you next week at Q’unq’inuqwstuxw Stadium! United!
